Wedding And Engagement Rings
How Much is Too Much For An Engagement Ring?
A lot of people believe that a requirement for an engagement ring is a diamond. Everyone is longing for a big and luxurious diamond engagement ring. Diamond was never the stone used for engagement during the old times. It was being popularized by DeBeers Diamond Company who gave a sentimental trademark of a diamond that “A Diamond is Forever”. It was a campaigned made by the company which increased their sales of the diamond stones. The thought that a diamond is a must in an engagement is because of the media. Advertisements and movie industries created a series of ads promoting diamonds as girl’s best friend. What the company did is that they offered it to the wives and daughters of politicians and post pictures of the wives wearing it which symbolizes that elite people wear diamonds. The company also offered it to celebrities and posts their pictures in a newspaper wearing the diamond.
Ads and thoughts regarding the diamond is just created, same as mother’s day. Mom’s day is created by a company who produces cards to increase their sales. Yes, mother’s day is also created for marketing strategy, and it makes a mother expect of something from someone yet you are not obliged to buy a card for your mom. You can buy her cake, or just give her a call and greet her.
The thought of it is the same with the diamond. It may be introduced in the market as a sign of forever and a girl’s best friend but everyone has their own choice. An engagement ring could be a diamond, or even just a plain ring or you can also use some other type of stone. No one will tell you that it will not be accepted by your fiancé or no priest would start a wedding because the engagement ring given is not a diamond.
It is clearly stated that no one is obliged to give his future wife a diamond. It is a matter of choice, practicality and budget. A man must not spend three months’ worth of his salary in order to buy a diamond ring. The price tag is the least important part of engagement. It is the sincerity and the love that matters most.
If you have plenty of extra money, then buy whatever you wanted regardless of how expensive it is, but if you have just enough, then be wise and use it for more important matters. Only spend the amount of the ring that you can afford to buy. Never buy anything that is very expensive and get hungry for the rest of the days because you over spent your savings. It is time to be very open with the truth that a love for a person will not be measured by the carat and clarity of the diamond. It is not measured on how expensive the ring is nor how big the rock is.
